138.- Tres tarjetas postales de Mary a Mercedes (III = 1922)- Mary sent three postcards sent to Mercedes (III= 1922)

Google traslation:

And here we come to the third postcard that got on this blog from the correspondence of Mary and Mercedes and it shows the friendship of these girls in the roaring 20's as a representation of this era.
Postcard 88 x 138 mm in the same house Italian publisher of the former, the latter with n º 218 - 3, with the image on the front of a drawing of the bust in profile of a young person reading a fashion magazine at the time . Leave without taking up large spaces that are used for text.
Is no cross so you had to send in an envelope or hand delivered by someone.
This card is fully written in pen with sepia ink both in the back, where it begins, as in the front, where it ends and which reads as follows:

" + 10/30/1922  Dear Merceditas: I'm surprised a lot to tell me I write because I hope you think you have received my letter sent you a picture of my godson, and more than a month ago I wrote and as I said, I think I rarely say anything. You also appreciate if you told Willie you see I'm waiting for my album and portraits. Now I have a trip planned, but until I write not tell you where. The battalion arrived on 18, excuse tell that she was paid a grand reception. came many strangers and illuminated the street and decorated very well. It also rose to the Virgin to hear Mass and was admirable. Officiating at the Bishop and the soldiers sang Gounod's Ave Maria and the final the anthem, so it was all very nice. lieutenants have been 2 new, lieutenants come here every night and spent very good time. Now there will be a Eucharistic Congress that will last 9 days, there are many things. We have a few days of freezing. Be sure to write soon and tell me many things. Memories of all for all and for you a big hug and many kisses from your best friend Mary. "

We fail to understand the place from which the postcard is written in October 1922, it seems that Mary is single, is with the young lieutenants in the battalion headquarters where he lives, what we hold in the idea that military daughter and expect the army to marry someone like her friend Mercedes. It has many period details and importance of military life and religion and his desire to travel, her interest in photo albums and Willie has to send the news that Mercedes calls.

Accompany a picture of Mercedes, 1920 in Medina Sidonia in the playground where his family owned in the back of the photograph Mercedes writes: "The challenge we did a few days before I came to Cadiz. Loves you very much your friend Mercedes. Cadiz 19 / 1 / 1920. "

138.- Tres tarjetas postales de Mary a Mercedes (II = 1920)- Mary sent three postcards sent to Mercedes (II= 1920)

Google translation:

Part 2 of this trilogy of postcards, here is a copy of 89 x 139 mm received from "Mary" to "Mercedes Fernández Guerra de la Vega" in front set the drawing color of the bust of a young girl wearing a fashion of the 20's with a striking cap or hat, this picture occupies the center of the card is signed by "NANNI".

The reverse, divided in half by the print "101 - 2" and the reservation of ownership, and an indication of printing in Milan. In place for the stamp is printed "printed in Italy ITALIAN PRODUZIONE Printed in Italy"

Handwriting begins with the following text on the front "Madrid 31 -1 - 1920 Today I receive letter from Miranda and has given me lot of happiness. Well, I write with love! The poor me!", Then follow the text occupying the back, with a text that seems to be a verbatim transcript of that letter which mentions Miranda and should be a suitor and says: "My dearest Cofrele (we're not sure of this word, a name that names the target) last 2 days, I received your letter here and I guess in your hands my letter that I wrote the day before coming addressed to Medina (Medina Sidonia), on Thursday last week. The copies of the newspaper leaves you and send them to me but when I am Cáceres. Tonight we went to Valencia and from there you write and tell you many things, yesterday I was to hear a concert by the symphony and I loved it, Antonito Bertrand gives me a lot of memories for you. Today I saw your brother Carlos the concert. " There must be a certain level military because its expression is good, attends concerts and talks about various destinations that should correspond to movements of military units, plus her friend Mercedes to which the postcard is addressed also to marry a military man .

This postcard ends with another text, again on the front (top) that Mercedes is fired after having transcribed the text of the "pretender" and which says: "Well, many memories for your mother and brothers and kisses to Eugenia and many hugs and kisses you on your unforgettable Mary. "

Accompany this card with two photographs of the era where our protagonists appear, the first corresponds to a picture of 42 x 67 mm of Mary with handwritten text that says: "My dear little friend Mercedes Mary" and on the back reads "April 1921 Badajoz "appears dated Badajoz while the postcard was dated 1920 in Madrid, and is still a very young so that the change of location should also correspond to the daughter of a soldier and then ease to know or be military girlfriend called to live among them.

The second picture is from Mercedes, dated in Sanlucar de Barrameda (where he was going the last letter of Mary in the previous entry in this blog) 24/VI/1919, this is a very fine photo paper stuck to de79 x 114 hard card 152 x 98 mm and at the back is written "Sanlucar 24-VI-1919 My best friend Peter, as proof that Mercedes always pleasantly recalls."

You can see a loving treatment to Peter, would surely be a suitor, who is given a beautiful picture taken by a professional photographer where Mercedes notes that the young should not have even 20 years with a sophisticated styling loop headdress recalls the picture of the postcard that we study today. This Peter does not happen to be a good friend because Mercedes would marry a military man named Jerome's to be discussed in another entry.

Mercedes photography is marked by a raised seal of ink, used widely in the period, which should correspond to the arms of his name or his family. We show here the impression left on the front and back.

137.- Tres tarjetas postales de Mary a Mercedes (I = 1918)- Mary sent three postcards sent to Mercedes (I = 1918)

Google translation:

Postcard 90 x 140 mm in the shown color drawing of a lady dressed in huge boxes coat, hat, heels, whip under his arm and grabbed a puppy on a leash. The background color is gray-beige and in one corner (lower right) printed "ECOLOMBO."

Postcard with some influence Modernist (art deco). On the front is written in brown ink pen: "Today 24-IX-XVIII."

On the back is printed: "Having regard Reviews Stampa - N. 1404 - Milano" and "STAMPA IN ITALY" and the number "894-2."

It is curious that the address was placed on the left side and text on the right, reverse order to normal. It is not stamped (must be sent in on or a person) and is directed to Ms. Mercedes F. Guerra de la Vega in Sanlucar de Barrameda (Cádiz) and the text reads: "You want 2 billion passes congratulations and very happy, feeling not to be your friend by your side you will not ever forget. Mary"

The card is written on the day of the feast of La Virgen de la Merced, hence the date put on the word "Today" to emphasize that congratulated her on her birthday even if the card came a few days later .

As discussed in the following postal Mary's friendship with Mercedes was maintained over time. Mercedes but at this time residing in Sanlucar de Barrameda was a native of Medina Sidonia but marriage to a soldier took him to various parts of Spain.

136.- Barcelona 1931

Google translation:

Postcard brightness of 91 x 140 mm with a black and white photograph of the facade of the Gothic cathedral of Barcelona with a white margin of about 5 mm thick, the bottom edge, something more, is printed: "123 BARCELONA CATHEDRAL L. Roisin. Photo. Barcelona."

Roisin Luciano photographer, born in France, moved to Spain after the First World War and settled in Barcelona and is a reference to a large number of postcards from all over Spain. You can more information about this photographer http://postalesdetoledo.iespana.es/postalesdetoledo/l__roisin.htm

On the back are printed the following words: "Reproduction prohibited - 53.425 Trademark" and "18, Paseo St. John. Barcelona." Funny how the address is written in the French style with the house number first and then the name of the street despite being an address in Spain but written by a Frenchman.

The card is not flanked by what must have sent it on, is dated at Barcelona on 23 November 1931 but addressed to someone of Cadiz so that text starts: "I think at the end of this week, may be that the Saturday I found again in Cadiz, I like to greet you. Regards Henry. "

It follows that Henry travels frequently to different places and in particular to Cadiz so that given the time due to being a traveling salesman or the like, talk to your partner you but with familiarity. The card is written in sepia ink pen with a welcome letter and very loose legal person. The message is brief and serves only to announce his possible next visit.

Google translation:

Postcard 88 x 137 mm for the years 20 (XX century) with the romantic picture of a young black and white, colored, who appears with a bouquet of flowers in hand. Are printed the letters "C" and "B" intertwined with watermarks, mims appears below the "Paris" and "866" as indicative of publisher, place and numbers. This card has rounded corners.

On the back is printed the legend "FABRICATION FRANÇAISE" (French manufacture) and the lines to put the address on which was written with blue ink pen and the target: " Ladies Doñas Josefa and Josefina "(at which it is addressed mother and daughter). There has been flanked by what must be delivered by hand or in an envelope.

The text of the postcard (with several spelling mistakes, good spelling but insecure and adult) said: "Pepita I wish you much happiness today and will last you many years and even in eternity because you know that you want and what Verily I say and today in many years that we can invite to your future son to his father and mother. Paquita and others. "

The text shows that the card type "Paquita" on behalf of his family, he must have written in March to compliment the day since San Jose is intended both as his daughter Josefa Josefina to wish happiness, talks about the future son than infer that Pepita was about to marry girlfriend. It uses the verb "convidar" rather than "invite" that was the one used colloquially in the working class, the spelling errors denote the short time spent in school because at that time was not a priority 'education women in school, in spite of that the lyrics are good but hesitant as denoting that the person writing it does every day for lack of fluency in it.

The card is standard romantic typical generic made in Paris and distributed in various countries with the image of a beautiful young man who could serve as a model of appearance and dress.
