Translation into English with Google:

Photographic Postcard rim of 136 x 87 mm. On the front is a photograph of Medina Sidonia Chiclana from the road.

Photographers start in this era of the early twentieth century to take advantage of reduced rates of postcards for mailing and make their postcard-size photographs and printed in all of them in the back legend postcard to convert all these pictures on postcards, getting that can be sent by mail without putting them in an envelope, with the advantage to the user and the photographer himself that would increase in orders. So there since the 10s to the 40s of XX century thousands of photographs, postcards, mostly portraits of people, although some places will be made in the city.

Thus we can see a postcard from 1915 that makes clear to us many things, the front is a photograph of view from the Medina Sidonia Chiclana road. The card may be made to order the photographer or the photographer already had some photo-cards for visitors of that period, the negative is scratched handwriting the name of "Medina Sidonia (partial view)" so what Most likely, and had prepared for sale. This also appears in front handwritten on the edge, the date "5/27/1915." Photography was seen in the distance the Church of San Agustin, the main church, the Church of Victory Church Santiago Park, the path ... and in the foreground there is a person sitting on the edge of the road.

At the back are printed the words: postcards, is divided into two equal parts by a vertical line separating the text direction. It is franked with a stamp bearing the portrait of Alfonso XIII peseta 10 cents in red, bears the stamp of Medina Sidonia, dated May 28, 1915. It is addressed to Mr. D. Fernando Rojo and Sojo. Civil engineer residing in Cortes Street No. 51-1 º -1 ª Barcelona. And the text is written below the printed word "correspondence" and says:

Dear Uncle Fernando: we wanted to have sent you a view of the surroundings of the place where we are, but as it is outside of the city is not so easy to get time you want. Commanded thee that which should arrive in time for the 30th and tell you, but you know, how many good things we wish for you always and especially on the day of your saint. A recall Marita tell her much and send you a thousand kisses and you get love from your nieces do not forget. Esperanza and Maria de la Concepcion.

The last two lines of text and the names are crossed above the rest of the text as it took advantage of the space available by typing in one direction and then perpendicular, with consequent difficulties for comprehension. The text is written with pen and ink with good penmanship.

From the text we can deduce several things

    * What was written on May 27, 1915 and tossed the mail probably the same day, which was postmarked on the 28th (next day) and issued to its destination and the sender wanted was in Barcelona on the 30th. We do not know if it came on that date, but certainly had faith in the good and fast performance of the postal service at that time.

    * Do not get given the place where they are, then this card must be already done when you buy.

    * The sender does not appear to be of Medina as they speak of "place where we are" and not your home or a family member, then they were "tourists of the era."

    * It is addressed to Mr. D. Fernando Rojo y Sojo, Civil Engineer indicating a high social status as the number of engineers at the time was very limited.

*In the center of the photo you can see houses hut used as shelter by the time farmers in this area.
